Call of Duty: Warzone hits 50 million players in one month

by myadmin

Just a month after launch, Activision’s new battle royal entry Call of Duty: Warzone has topped 50 million players. The free-to-play add-on for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has launched at an interesting time, and appears to be roughly on pace with the growth seen last year by EA’s Fortnite challenger Apex Legends. That game also topped 50 million players in a month, although maintaining that momentum is the hard part.

The game has already had a brilliant track record building up to its current milestone. Within 24 hours of its launch, the game pulled in six million players, much more than the previous 2.5 million-player record held by Apex Legends. It then reached 15 million players within three days of its release. Although its growth inevitably slowed down, it nonetheless is still on par with its EA Games competitor, both bringing in 50 million gamers within one month.

Activision’s previous battle royale title, Blackout was made available for limited players. It could only be played within 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Unlike Blackout, Warzone was released as a standalone download for consoles and PC. Players need not own any special software to install the game. Warzone is also available as a free download, further boosting its popularity. Still, Activision and Infinity Ward’s success here illustrates that the BR genre, while having lost a lot of its luster since it effectively consumed the first-person shooter market three years ago, still has plenty of room for new ideas and interesting takes on the now-trademark design of these types of games.

Activision has regularly updated fans with Warzone’s growing player base, boasting 6 million players in the game’s first 24 hours; 15 million players in the first four days; and 30 million players in the first 10 days.Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest update went live Tuesday, April 8, alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s third season of content. Warzone is available as a free, stand-alone download and as part of Modern Warfare.
